Good CVOR nurses have excellent teamwork and communication skills because working in the cardiovascular OR requires a highly cohesive team effort. CVOR nurses have advanced knowledge of all types of cardiac operative procedures, which helps hone their lifesaving skills. They have enhanced technical skills that allow them to operate and troubleshoot complex machinery. CVOR nurses possess strong organizational skills to effectively coordinate care across the CVOR and excellent attention to detail to ensure quality monitoring and patient safety. To become a CVOR travel nurse, individuals must have an active RN license. This requires an associate or a bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program, passing the NCLEX-RN and completing state licensing requirements. Certification in Basic Life Support is required and many facilities prefer, and sometimes require, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certifications.

CVOR nurses may hold Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR), among others.
