Duties

This is an open continuous announcement for Licensed Practical Nurse vacancies at the Bronx VA Medical Center. Qualified applicants will be considered and referred as vacancies become available. Primary duties include however are not limited to the following:

  • The LPN demonstrates the ability to provide a full range of practical nursing care to patients with a variety of physical or behavioral problems.
  • The LPN is a member of the larger team.
  • The LPN provides guidance to less experienced LPNs, LVNs, Nursing Assistants, or Health Technicians in order to provide optimal care to patients.
  • The LPN demonstrates active collaboration, customer service, and communication with the Teamlet (Patient, Primary Care Provider, RN Care Manager and Clinical Support Technician) and extended Team (family/caregiver, internal and community-based services and disciplines involved in providing care to the patient).
  • The LPN effectively communicates to patients family members to provide education in relation to disease processes, medication, or prescribed treatment regimens.
  • The LPN is responsible for observing, recording and reporting changes in the patient's condition, as well as assisting in the development and revision of the patient-driven holistic care plan for life.
  • The LPN is responsible for collecting and labeling specimens, e.g. blood, sputum, emesis, urine, stool. Demonstrates competence utilizing special equipment needed to perform job duties i.e.: EKG; Performs TPR, B/P, Pulse Oximetry, I &O, heights, weights, finger sticks, phlebotomies.
  • Performs administration of immunizations as per the facility protocol i.e., Flu Vaccine; pneumococcal; COVID-19 vaccine; other immunizations and women's' health related immunizations.
  • Conducts clinical reminders with appropriate consults and alerts as indicated in condition and/or adverse response to medication will be reported to the RN or MD/DO.
  • In some instances, the LPN will recognize the need for emergency measures and seek the assistance of the RN/MD/DO.
  • The LPN will assist in resuscitation in instances of cardiac or pulmonary arrest. It is the responsibility of the LPN to recognize and respond to any malfunction or loss of equipment, safety hazards, supply deficiencies by reporting to the appropriate personnel for action.
  • The LPN performs other duties as assigned.
