The Nurse Manager oversees all daily operational activities, including departmental planning related to staffing, scheduling, and budget; ensuring appropriate systems and processes for the efficient delivery of care; and ensuring safe/high quality care and an outstanding experience for patients and their families. This leadership role assumes 24/7 responsibility for all department functions, including maintaining effective interprofessional communication and a positive work environment that supports and embraces the principles of shared governance. The manager ensures that staff are educated and competent to care for the patients under their care, and works effectively with physicians, peers and other Legacy leadership to meet the strategic objectives of Legacy. Click here to learn more about Legacy Health Responsibilities Participates in the recruitment, interviewing, selection, education and evaluation of staff. Assesses technical and professional education needs of staff and develops or provides educational resources to meet those needs. Ensures competency of all caregivers. Designs a staffing plan to meet the needs of the patients being served and ensures appropriate allocation of resources to meet departmental needs. Monitors performance of staff and departmental processes. Provides timely feedback and coaching; implements corrective action practices when appropriate. Creates and maintains a positive work environment that supports a culture of shared decision making and open communication. Holds staff accountable for patient and unit outcomes. Plans and manages for the business priorities and clinical needs of the department. Identifies and resolves issues affecting the delivery of patient care services in the department. Develops the departmental budget; makes decisions regarding expenditures of funds to meet department objectives and maintains costs within budgeted amounts. Demonstrates knowledge of applicable statutory, regulatory and administrative requirements relative to departmental operations / accreditation. Maintains compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations, hospital and departmental policies and procedures Qualifications Education: An academic degree in nursing is required (BSN or MSN/MN); master's degree required, MSN/MN preferred. Internal candidates promoting from Assistant Nurse Manager may meet the master's degree requirement with verification of a master's degree in progress with an expected completion date within 2 years of the promotion date; progress will be reported periodically to the site CNO. Experience: Two years of leadership practice experience required. Demonstrated growth in leadership responsibilities and breadth desired. Previous clinical experience specific to the appropriate area of specialty practice is highly desirable. Skills: Demonstrated knowledge of clinical operations, including staffing and scheduling, budget management, workflow planning, staff development, quality, safety and patient experience management. Excellent communication (verbal and written) and leadership skills, and a willingness to lead by example. Keyboard skills and ability to navigate electronic systems applicable to job functions are essential.
