JOB SUMMARY The infusion/ chemotherapy nurse, having acquired knowledge and skill in infusion and chemotherapy, is a Registered Nurse. The infusion/chemotherapy nurse is accountable for practicing within the defined scope of practice for the RN and is committed to providing safe, quality infusion and oncology nursing care. The nurses practice is based upon the following: Knowledge of anatomy and physiology; Specific knowledge and understanding of the vascular system and its relationship with other body systems and infusion treatment modalities; Knowledge of state-of-the-art technologies associated with infusion therapies; Specific knowledge in the administration of chemotherapeutic and biological agents; Knowledge of psychosocial aspects of care, including a sensitivity to the patients wholeness, uniqueness, and significant social relationships , along with knowledge of community and economic resources; and interaction and collaboration with members of the healthcare team and participation in the clinical decision-making process. To perform nursing duties which include providing clinical assistance to physicians in the outpatient office practice setting. Nurses are responsible for accommodating the needs of the physician by controlling patient flow, following established protocols for preparing patients in advance of the physician for exams, assisting the physician with routine procedures, coordinating patient referrals into and out of the practice for clinical care; managing patient telephone calls related to clinical questions, test results, prescriptions, symptoms, and physician requested communication with the skillset to implement nursing interventions when necessary. Qualifications JOB QUALIFICATIONS Education: AD in nursing required, BSN preferred Licensure: License as a registered professional nurse in the State of Georgia. BLS CPR required Experience: 5 years Med/Surg Nursing experience preferred: 2-year experience in chemotherapy and intravenous administration preferred. Skills: Ability to access all central and peripheral lines, Knowledge of Chemotherapy and Biotherapy according to the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) and Knowledge of Intravenous Nurses Society (INS) Standards of Practice. Chemotherapy certification required or eligible to sit for exam. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Nursing skills as defined in the law governing the practice of nursing in Georgia.
