The Department of Respiratory Therapy at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full time Respiratory Therapist 2. The successful candidate will: * Provide respiratory care for patients under the direction of a physician. * Make rounds to determine if patient is receiving proper respiratory care. * Conduct ventilator management. * Draw and analyze blood for arterial blood gases. * Record respiratory progress of patients who are being ventilated mechanically. * Record the respiratory status of all patients who can not sustain their own respiratory function during cardio-respiratory arrests. * Assist physicians in ventilating patients who can not sustain their own respiratory function during cardiorespiratory arrests. * Provide sputum induction. * Administer Nitric Oxide Therapy. * Explain the use of respiratory care devices to patients and/or family members and assist in the use thereof. * Make entries in patient's progress record and hospital computer systems. * Clean and decontaminate equipment once removed from patient use. * Provide chest physio-therapy and assist in pulmonary lavage/suctioning. * Demonstrate availability flexibility, to be assigned to work in other areas during times of staff shortages, emergencies, and as deemed necessary due to business need and fluctuations in hospital census. Required Qualifications: * Associate of Applied Science in Respiratory Therapy or graduate of a 2-year AMA approved Respiratory Therapy program. * Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT). * New York State Respiratory Therapist Licensure. * BLS (to be obtained within 1-year of employment). Preferred Qualifications: * Registered Respiratory Therapist (RR) with NPS, NRP, PALS and ACLS preferred. Work Schedule: Variable Days; 7:30am to 8:30pm Salary Grade/Rank: SL-3 Salary Range: Commensurate with experience and qualifications COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement: An approved COVID-19 vaccination.
