Night Manager Inpatient and Emergency Room Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Director of Inpatient and Emergency Room, the Night Manager of Inpatient / Emergency Room is responsible for ensuring safe and efficient care of the emergency, post-operative, and medical-surgical patient in accordance with regulatory and accreditation standards and the facility mission, vision, and values. Responsibilities include night-to-night operations, staffing a 30-bed inpatient unit and one emergency room, supply usage, and the overall function of Emergency Room and Inpatient Services. Assist with monitoring appropriate documentation in the medical record. Supports the facility mission, vision, and values in providing quality patient care. In conjunction with the Director, the Manager Inpatient / Emergency Room shall develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate the implementation of policies and procedures, which assure that cost effective, safe, and high-quality care is implemented. Projects a professional demeanor and appearance while maintaining the confidentiality of patients, coworkers, and facility information and adhering to the HIPAA policy. Reports, in good faith, any known or suspected activity that appears to violate laws, rules, regulations or the SP Code of Conduct. Fulfills annual continuing education requirements and ensures that department personnel complete mandatory training. Essential Job Functions: * Executes night-to-night management responsibilities assuring safe and effective clinical operations. * Assures compliance with local, state, federal and Joint Commission regulations. Performs regular audits of processes, documentation, and equipment. * Responsible for preparing staffing schedules and monitoring staff timesheets and payroll. Assists charge nurse with patient assignments. Maintains sufficient staffing levels and coordinates with operating room and paranesthesia departments to achieve smooth patient flow. Reviews productivity to ensure appropriate staffing. * Facilitates the development of appropriate working relationships with the Administration, CNO, Medical Staff, corporate staff, patients, and family members. * Participates in service recovery by taking ownership of the situation and correcting problems. Strives to promote customer satisfaction and follow through with the situation to correct the problem. Keeps customers informed of progress related to clinical operations and provides comfort, information, and assistance during the process. * Demonstrates clinical competence and ability to provide direct patient care and step into floor or charge nurse role when needed. Delegates appropriately while directing and supervising nursing and ancillary personnel according to accepted standards. * Assists with the facilitation of orientation, in-services, and identification of learning needs. Participates in and develops performance improvement initiatives. Assists with monitoring education and training compliance of staff. * Coaches staff on performance and assists with verbal and written counseling in a timely manner. * Participation in development of clinical operating budget, capital budget, staffing, and volume projections. * Assists in the development of plans for cost containment in all clinical areas and implements and oversees the same to ensure successful completion of goals. * Participates in regular and effective planning meetings with department and hospital leadership. * Sets yearly goals for clinical departments and self, creates strategies, and establishes time frames to accomplish goals. Qualifications, Knowledge & Ability: * Graduate of a school of professional nursing with current and valid licensure with Texas State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. * Bachelor of Science in Nursing imminent or obtainable within 1 year of hire preferred. * Ability to achieve BLS & ACLS certifications within 30 days of hire and PALS certification within 60 days of hire. * Minimum of 2 years direct nursing care of surgical patients. * Experience in nursing leadership, such as charge nurse preferred. * Demonstrates knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within nursing unit operations. * Familiarizes self with state, federal and accrediting body regulations and standards related to healthcare. * Demonstrated effective skills in verbal and written English communications for safe care. * Must be computer literate with basic computer skills that are required to perform essential job-related duties. * Experience using Microsoft Office products is required.
