Clinical Chemistry Lab Supervisor

Responsibilities This person is responsible for the daily supervision of general operations and personnel performing technical tasks in the department/shift assigned. Supervisors manage any staffing, procedural, or technical problems that may occur. This person aids the lab manager and director in assuring quality laboratory service within the guidelines set by regulatory agencies. Aids the lab manager and director in ensuring that regulatory and hospital standards are implemented fairly and promptly and that appropriate documentation is maintained. Requirements EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE * Education and Work Experience: * Must possess a high school diploma or GED. * A B.S. and successful completion of an accredited MT/MLS program. * A B.S in Chemistry, Biology, or other laboratory based Science including a Laboratory training program or accredited by the ABHES, NAACLS or HHS sanctioned reviewer, ASCP accreditation or equivalent. * A B.S. in Chemistry, Biology, or other laboratory based Science degree that includes 60 semester hours of medical lab technology courses or other sciences as specified by CLIA. 5 years experience in a licensed Clinical laboratory. SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS * Certification Requirements: * ASCP Certification or Equivalent for Medical Technology, Medical Lab Science preferred * Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: * Knowledge of quality control rules and monitoring. * Knowledge of regulatory standards including CAP, Joint Commission, CLIA and other as required. * As appropriate to section assignment, testing experience in the technical areas of the department, such as Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis and Blood Gas for CORE Lab. * Previous experience with staffing management preferred. * Qualifies to serve as a CAP inspector. * Ability to use Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook (preferred) * Epic Beaker (preferred) * Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language in an understandable manner. * Must be able to work independently and possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. * Must possess the ability to effectively communicate and deal tactfully with other personnel, visitors, patients, physicians, customers, and the general public. * Must be flexible, have personal integrity, and the ability to function effectively as a team with other employees. * Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
