This program rotates through various units including 2 Pavilion/South, 5 Main, 6 Main, 6 West, and 7 Main within Shadyside Hospital's Oncology Service Line. During this program, you will gain valuable and varied experience while working alongside an experienced nurse to help mentor and guide you in your learning. About UPMC Shadyside: UPMC Shadyside's Oncology Division provides new nurses to develop and be a part of the future of cancer care. Nurses who work in these units are developed and trained to administer and be a part of groundbreaking research in patient care. There are opportunities for growth and development through continued education opportunities and certification as an Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN). * 2 Pavilion/South Hematology/Oncology: Shadyside 2 Pavilion/South is a fast-paced hematology/oncology unit that is advancing cancer care. Nurses in this unit specialize in centralizing the care of medically managed patients who have received chemotherapy treatments. Ongoing education is valued, supported, and encouraged on 2 Pavilion making it a great unit for both graduate and experienced nurses seeking to expand their clinical knowledge. * 5 Main Medical Oncology: 5 Main is an oncology unit that specializes in the care of patients with cancer and blood disorders. 5 Main offers revolutionary cancer treatment and actively participates in oncology research. It is a fast-paced unit that is advancing cancer care. Nurses on this unit will participate in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, side effect management of cancer and cancer therapies, treatment of oncology emergencies, and provide palliative and end-of-life care. 5 Main nurses participate in clinical trials through the administration of clinical trial agents, monitoring of patients, and development of standards of care. Specialized training courses are provided to allow nurses to become competent in delivering oncology care, antineoplastic therapies, and complementary therapies. * 6 Main Medical Oncology: 6 Main is a Hematology/Oncology unit specializing in a wide range of oncological diagnoses and is at the forefront of research. This unit primarily serves our lymphoma patients receiving chemotherapy and biological treatments. 6 Main is UPMC Shadyside Hospital's Dedicated Education unit where clinical staff nurses serve as instructors for the University of Pittsburgh nursing students. These clinical staff nurses receive special training and opportunities to pursue further education at the university. * 6 West Stem Cell Transplant: 6 West is an oncology unit that specializes in stem cell transplants, car-t cell infusions, and cutting-edge research. Patient diagnoses include a robust oncology population specializing in hematological cancers. This unit is an ideal unit for nurses seeking to gain specialized oncology experience and who prefer the continuity of care. There are plenty of opportunities for growth and development through continued education opportunities and certification as a Blood and Marrow Transplant Certified Nurse (BMTCN). Nurses will attend training to administer chemotherapy as well as Stem Cell Transplant classes. * 7 Main Hematology/Oncology: 7 Main is a hematology-oncology unit specializing in the treatment of leukemia. The length of stay is long for most patients on 7 Main and the unit has a family resource lounge as well as rehab equipment directly on the unit. Nurses on 7 Main work extensively with chemotherapy administration and provide our patients with thoughtful oncology education, therefore ease with communication is a key skill amongst our staff. What is the Graduate Nurse Rotational Program (GNRP)? UPMC Shadyside is pleased to announce we are NOW HIRING Graduate Nurses as full-time Professional Staff Nurses to support various hospital units as part of a special Rotational Program. The GNRP will begin in August 2024. Previous participants have had the opportunity to participate in the following rotate through various units including 4 Main, 5 Main, 6 Main, 6 West, and 7 Main for 12 months. Upon completion of the Graduate Nurse Rotational Program, placements are determined by participant preference, Hiring Manager preference, and business need through a collaborative matching process at UPMC Shadyside. Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the My Nursing Career Ladder based on their individual experience and education. Shift/Hours: Our RNs work rotating 12-hour schedules to ensure 24/7 coverage on the floor. GNs must be eligible for State Board Licensure and successfully pass the examination before beginning this role -OR- must have a Temporary Practice Permit and commit to taking the NCLEX examination within FOUR months of hire. * BSN Preferred * Graduate Nurses with an Associate's Degree or MSN will be considered if not having BSN * Completion of UPMC Student Nurse Internship Program or student clinical transitions course at UPMC preferred * The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately with the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below * They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures * Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families. Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, and handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment * Critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care. Good clinical judgment. Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in the application of the nursing process Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: * Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse required prior to program start date OR must have a Temporary Practice Permit and commit to taking the NCLEX examination within FOUR months of hire. * CPR is required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire * Act 34 Criminal Clearance * Basic Life Support UPMC is an equal opportunity employer.
