POSTION SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to supervise, provide and coordinate nursing care in compliance with facility policies and procedures and to assess residents' care needs and take appropriate action. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: * RN license with the state of South Carolina and is in good standing. * Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills. * Prior experience in the long term care setting desired, with supervisory experience a plus. * Demonstrates ability to utilize independent and effective clinical judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills. * Ability to function effectively in multi-faceted systems and to interact effectively with all levels of staff and customers. * Strong organizational and analytical skills PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: * Follow established standards of nursing practices and implement facility policies and procedures. * Supervise and evaluate all direct resident care and initiate corrective action as necessary. * Take appropriate action to assure adequate staffing to meet residents needs. * Conduct resident care rounds, reporting problems to Unit Managers and DON and initiating corrective action. * Identify safety hazards and initiate corrective action immediately. * Identify resident problems and emergency situation and initiate emergency care and life saving measures in the absence of a physician, in accordance with documented resident wishes. * Follow, supervise and evaluate implementations of the Residents Rights Program. * Participate in facility education programs. * Attend staff meetings, in-service classes and committee meetings as assigned. * Follow staffing guidelines and make nursing assignment according to qualification of staff and characteristics of the resident population. * Assume responsibility for compliance with federal, state and local regulations. * Counsel RNs, LPNs and Certified Nursing Assistants and implement disciplinary action as needed. * Participate in the employee evaluation process by providing information on the performance of RNs, LPNs and Certified Nursing Assistants. * Provide instruction for appropriate nursing care to RNS, LPNs and Certified Nursing Assistants. * Ensure the prompt reporting of changes in resident's condition to the physician, and responsible party and take follow up action as necessary. * Follow facility admission procedures and communicate resident admission to other departments, physicians and ancillary service providers. * Competently perform basic nursing skills, including assessment. * Follow Facility discharge/transfer procedure and coordinate discharge/transfer with other departments, physicians and ancillary service providers. * Complete documentation related to the residents discharge/transfer. * Supervise response to resident's call for assistance. * Listen to resident, family or physician concerns and initiate corrective action. * Check meal trays and nourishment to ensure proper diet is served and residents are assisted as necessary. * Supervise the application and removal of all devices used to position and enable resident to function as independently as possible. * Notify physician when necessary of changes in resident's conditions and any other unusual observation. * Consistently work cooperatively with residents, nursing staff, physicians, families, consultant personnel, community agencies and ancillary service providers. * Obtain continuing education required to maintain licensure. * Be responsible for the safety of residents and staff under his/her supervision. * Observe all facility safety policies and procedures. * Come to work in a clean, neat uniform and consistently present an appropriate professional appearance. * Come to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality. * Assume accountability for data contained in the employees' handbook. * Perform all duties assigned in an effective, cooperative, timely and professional manner. * Observe infection control procedures. * Follow Resident Rights policies at all times. * Ensure the completion nursing documentation per policy. * Perform all duties within the guidelines of the South Carolina Nurse Practice Act for a Registered Nurse. * Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

Pay

Average North Carolina Staff Position Pay

$49.51/hour

The average salary for a Med Surg is 9% higher than the US average of $45.
