Wound Ostomy Nurse (RN)


Job Summary We are searching for a Wound Ostomy Nurse- to provide quality wound and ostomy nursing care to patients by assessing, planning, educating, implementing, and evaluating age appropriate care in a manner that incorporates family centered principals and cost effective care. Think you've got what it takes? * will support all areas of acute care/critical care and outpatient (neonates to adults) * pediatric experience a plus (Adult experience OK) Responsibilities Specific Duties * Performs and documents assessment of the patient/family including bio-physical, psychosocial, developmental (age appropriate), cultural, spiritual, and environmental needs in an organized and systematic manner. * Identifies patient's needs pertaining to patient teaching, discharge planning, growth and development, nutritional screening, functional status, and pain management. * Determines which standards of care and practice apply to the patient; coordinates and communicates this information to other health care team members, in order to meet patient needs. * Participates in interdisciplinary rounds and/or patient care conferences to provide input regarding the wound and ostomy perspective and documents in the medical record, as appropriate. * Evaluates and documents patient's response to the care and treatments provided and recognizes the patient's progress toward meeting the desired outcomes and discusses with the patient/family. * Executes therapeutic physician or nurse interventions according to established standards of practice and appropriate policies and procedures related to care delivery. * Encourages patient/family to verbalize feelings (grief, frustration, etc.) and provides psychosocial support when necessary. * Demonstrates willingness and ability to acquire new knowledge relevant to pediatric nursing and/or WONS nursing and utilize new skills needed to improve individual, team, and organizational performance. * Maintains knowledge base by reading professional literature pertaining to specialty and completes continuing education as * needed to maintain expertise in WOC nursing. Qualifications Being fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including any booster dose(s) of the COVID-19 vaccine recommended by the Centers for Disease Control when eligible, is required for all employees at Texas Children's, unless approved for a medical or religious exemption Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in nursing * One (1) year nursing experience * Current licensure with the Board of Nursing for the State of Texas and current BLS certification is required * CPR - Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association * Graduate of a wound, ostomy, continence nursing education program accredited by the Wound Ostomy Continence Nurses (WOCN) Society or currently enrolled in a WOCN-credited wound, ostomy, continence program with completion of program within 6 months of assuming the role Prefer CWOCN Certified Wound/Ostomy/Cont RN, but can obtain post-hire * Maintains knowledge base by reading professional literature pertaining to specialty and completes continuing education as needed to maintain expertise in WOC nursing. * Operate the following equipment: infusion pumps, electronic thermometers, non-invasive blood pressure, defibrillator, suction machine, cardiac monitor, scales, computers and any other role specific equipment.
