Job Description Summary The Vascular Technician will perform a variety of exams to assess patients for pathology of the veins and arteries in the body other than the heart. These exams may incorporate a variety of methodology including color Doppler, pulsed wave Doppler and B-mode ultrasound, together with a history and physical exam. Job Description The Vascular Technician will: * Perform venous, carotid, aortic, and arterial duplex examinations according to approved protocols. * Assess the appropriateness of exams using ICD 9 codes and symptoms, consult the physician of possible discrepancies, and modify the exam with referring physician approval. * Review, evaluate and quantify exam findings based on normal and abnormal values for vascular morphology and physiology with consideration of technical and exam limitations for the purpose of physician interpretation. * Document and prepare patient records for review and interpretation by physician, including the selection, recording, and cross-referencing of significant or representative studies. * Selects and operates equipment as required. * Maintains accurate patient records with regard to evaluation results. * Maintains equipment to assure conformance with operational standards. * Performs clerical support when needed including reception duties, patient scheduling, inventory of department supplies and file maintenance. * Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. Reporting Relationships * Reports directly to the Manager, Radiology Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required * Knowledge of principles and procedures of hemodynamic procedures, routine equipment maintenance and medical terminology normally acquired through completion of a formal accredited school in Vascular Ultrasound/Technology. * ARDMS Certification as a Registered Vascular Technician (RVT) or RVT eligible. RVT exam must be successfully completed within 1 year of hire. * Interpersonal skills necessary to deal with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress in order to promote good customer relations. * Interpersonal skills for working with all levels of health care workers. * Ability to analyze situations, identify problems and plan courses of action in concert with the philosophy and objectives of the department. * Ability to transfer and position patients, consistent with lifting up to 35 lbs. Working Conditions * Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature. * Occasional exposure to infectious disease when working with patients.
