Our team is excited to announce that we now have an opening for an on-call Registered Nurse 2 at the beautiful Walla Walla Veterans Home! * This position has been posted within the assigned pay range through Step T. Step U has not been published as this is considered the longevity step, in alignment with state HR compensation rules.   Position(s) at this location will also receive 5% Premium Pay for facilities open twenty four hours per day. Employees must physically work at the facility 3 days per workweek to qualify. In addition, we provide critical community services through a variety of programs, and at our four State Veterans Homes located in Orting, Port Orchard, Spokane, and Walla Walla. These locations provide Medicare and Medicaid nursing home care to honorably discharged Veterans, including, in some instances, their spouses, widows, or Gold Star Families. As a Registered Nurse 2, you will provide nursing-related care to residents at the Walla Walla Veterans Home, to include assistance with activities of daily living, monitoring and recording all aspects of care, passing medications, administering oxygen, and more. Change lives by applying now!Some of what you will be doing: * Directing the care delivered by nursing assistants certified in the delivery of nursing and nursing-related care to vulnerable Veterans. * Coordinating assignment of staff to residents, providing direction and information via accurate communication of current resident status and care needs. * Planning, overseeing, and evaluating work. * Performing on-the-job training to newly hired staff. * Monitoring and promoting completion of all training requirements for subordinate staff on a quarterly basis. * Assisting the physician with physical examinations, techniques, and procedures. * Holding sick call and examining residents to determine their need for medical care. * Completing medication administration as ordered by the prescribing healthcare professional, transcribing orders, and documenting, formulating, and updating resident care plans. * Passing medications or administering medications and treatments for members unable to do their own or monitoring self-pour medications of residents. * Collaborating with other members of the healthcare team to develop individual care plans for residents. Required:  * Current Washington State registered nurse license OR unencumbered registered nurse multistate license.  * Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing. Preferred/Desired: * One (1) year of professional nursing experience. * Long-term care experience. * Ability to articulate methods and practices of nursing and restorative care, personal hygiene and sanitation methods, recordkeeping, report preparation, infection control procedures, and resident rights. * Experience with assessing, evaluating, and participating in the development of appropriate plans of care. Ability to plan, implement, and document appropriate discharge planning for residents when appropriate. Ability to perform selected nursing procedures. Finalists will be asked to provide a list of at least three professional references with current telephone numbers.  Other Information: * Must be able pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check prior to beginning services and every two (2) years in accordance with WDVA Policy 615.000 Background Checks. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position. * Must comply with annual Tuberculin Screening in accordance with DVA policy 670.000 Tuberculosis Testing. * Requires medical evaluation, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as required by the Washington Industrial Safety and Act standards. Must be able to wear a respirator, medical gloves, gowns, eye protection, and other personal protection as required by a job or task. * Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. and be capable of reaching a minimum of 36" using proper technique to stock shelves and access supplies. Employee must also be able to push or pull with sufficient strength and walk, sit, and bend in an unrestricted manner during the entire workday. * Must remain current in CPR. * Must have the ability to speak, read, and write in the English language for medical charts and data entry. * Positions requiring travel must have a valid unrestricted driver's license and must be insured if driving a privately owned vehicle on state business. * Candidates who are offered a job with WDVA must possess work authorization which does not require sponsorship by the employer for a visa now or in the future. * This position is represented by the Washington State Nurses Association.
