School Registered Nurse JobID: 836 Position Type: School Health Services/School Registered Nurse Date Posted: 3/6/2024 Location: Pasco &nbsp&nbspAdditional Information: Show/Hide Department: School Health Services Reports To: Director of School Health Services Classification: Classified Non-Exempt School Year Position (195 days) Schedule: Mon-Fri - 7 hours per day during a typical school schedule Location: ESD 123 Region (Benton, Franklin, and Walla Walla Counties) Starting Rate: Starting $38.28 (step 1/year 1) - $43.08 (step 5/year 5) This position is open until filled SUMMARY: ESD 123 is looking to hire a registered nurse to assist and support multiple districts across the region. Travel for this position is required throughout Benton, Franklin, and Walla Walla county. The school nurse, under the direction and supervision of the ESD School Health Services Administrator, implements, manages, and delivers school health services to assigned schools. Specific activities, duties and responsibilities are determined by resources available and agreement with the school district. Responsibility for the health and safety of students remains with the school district. Laws and regulations and professional school nursing standards define the school nurse scope of practice. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Assess student and school needs to, in coordination with school administrators, prioritize nursing duties and determine what can and cannot be done within the time provided. * Communicate with school administrators regularly student and school health needs are being addressed and those that are not. * •Assess students with identified health conditions to; * determine if the student's condition(s) is/are complex and/or potentially life threatening, * determine how to best address the student's health needs, * cooperatively develop procedures and plans to address those needs, * communicate plans with appropriate staff including procedural instruction confirming staff competence, * monitor plan effectiveness and staff readiness, * and revise plans as needed. * Instruct, delegate and supervise medication administration and medical/nursing treatments as allowed by law. * Participate with other educational and health professionals in developing individualized educational plans and 504 accommodation plans. * Assess the physical, emotional, and social health of students as related to their educational success within the scope of school nurse practice to; * determine strengths and potential concerns, * initiate referrals for further diagnosis, treatment or support of those concerns, * monitor referrals to assure concerns are addressed * assist student and family to understand and manage interventions and recommendations from different referrals, * communicate with healthcare providers with parent and/or student consent * cooperatively develop 504 accommodations if needed, * and work with staff to understand student conditions, how they affect learning and how to support student strengths and positively influence health concerns. * Provide consultation services to school personnel regarding health issues, e.g., communicable disease control. * Assist schools to provide health screenings mandated by law when time permits though training, coordination, additional screening for students per staff request, referral and follow-up. * Perform professional nursing tasks as indicated and assigned including urgent interventions when on site. * Serve as an advocate for the health rights of students and as a professional liaison between the school, family, and health community. * Provide health counseling and crisis intervention to students * Serve as a resource for health education to classroom teachers * Cooperate with administrators and other staff to identify school safety and environmental health needs. * Participate in appropriate data collection as related to health care services. * Assist district administrators in writing and adopting school health service policies. * Document assessments, concerns, plans and interventions per standards of school health and nursing practice. * Document health counseling and recommendations to staff and administration. QUALIFICATIONS: Credentials: * Current active Washington State Registered Nurse License * Current valid Driver's License WSP/ FBI background clearance required. Below is an example of a gross monthly paycheck for a full work year: * $4,354.35 (step 1/year 1) - $4,900.35 (step 5/year 5) * This amount may increase or decrease slightly based on hiring date and months remaining in the work calendar (Sept 01-Aug 31).
