Registered Dietitian I - Outpatient - Pediatric Nutrition


Overview The Registered Dietitian I is responsible for providing medical nutrition therapy to patients with acute or chronic diseases/health issues; including obesity, diabetes, and other weight or nutrition management conditions. The position serves the following patient age categories on an outpatient basis in a number of settings with both individual and group/class sessions: pediatrics, adults and geriatrics. Talent Pool: Allied Health Responsibilities Performs comprehensvie, individualized patient assessments and develops appropriate treatment plans by incorporating data from all sources into initial and ongoing assessments and treatment. Takes into consideration clinical, socioeconomic, psycho-social, and deitary data for care plan development. Utilizes standardized medical utrition therapy protocols and monitors effectiveness by utilizing the principles of the Nutrition Care Process.--------------------------------------------------Evaluates effectiveness of interventions and education through analyzing outcome measures, clinical indicators, and patient satisfaction surveys. Establishes and monitors therapeutic nutrition goals, individualized to each patietn. Utilizes qualitative and quantitative measures to evaluate patient status and compliance with treatment plan.--------------------------------------------------Tailors education strategies and goals to patient's comprehension, socioeconomic, cultural, religious and functional level. Ensure patient confidentiality. Develops, implements, and monitors consultative or contracted services to off-site businesses or groups. Provides presentations to the community, heatlch professionals, and professional organizations on a regular basis. Must be able to tailor presentations and education based on audeince demographics at any point.--------------------------------------------------Promotes services through media contacts, presentations, health fairs, articles, and direct physician visits. Works with referring physicians to build comprehensive service line to meet the needs of patients throughout the community. Actively particpates in strategic planning activities within the department to better promote current services, expand services as appropriate, and determine new key busness strategies to ensure long-term success of the Center. --------------------------------------------------Must possess a working knowledge of all office functions including referral processing, scheduling, collections, and all rules and regulations related to patient confidentiality and NDMC Accreditation. Working knowledge of the charging process, reimbursemetn guidelines, and builling procedures. Supports and works within established departmental budgeted goals for expenses, patient visits, billable hours, and revenue.--------------------------------------------------Must be able to communicate effectively - both written and oral communication. Documents according to all hospital and regulatory agency rules, regulations, and guidelines.--------------------------------------------------Participates in continuing education activities that enhance the delivery of medical nutrition therapy. Must be pro-active in seeking the latest information regarding nutrition therapy. Routinely assesses knowledge, skills, and abilities for self-development and setting goals leading toward advancement to an RD II position. Serves as a preceptor for student interns as needed.-------------------------------------------------- Qualifications EDUCATION:Bachelor?s Degree in Nutrition or related field requiredMaster?s degree in Nutrition or related field preferred EXPERIENCE:Required: 0-1 years in clinical nutrition following pre-professional experiencePreferred: >1 year in clinical nutrition following pre-professional experience LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:REQUIREDBLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider Certification as a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist (RDN) as issued by the Commission on Dietetic Registration AND Licensure as a Dietitian/Nutritionist as issued by the NCBDN. OR completion of a Supervised Practice Program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) as evidenced by an original Verification Statement supplied by the Program Director in a color ink other than black and dated within the previous 12 months PLUS a provisional license from the North Carolina Board of Dietetics/Nutrition (NCBDN) must be obtained prior to starting employment in conjunction with the original verification statement. The incumbent must become registered and licensed within 6 months of employment.PREFERRED
