Terms and conditions apply The VCU Health Perfusion team is seeking an exceptional adult perfusionist to join our dynamic team of 8 skilled professionals. Our team supports critical cardiac procedures, including coronary artery bypass grafts (CABGs), valve surgeries, complex aortic cases, ventricular assist device (VAD) placements, and transplants. In addition to core responsibilities, we engage in autotransfusion, provide coverage for liver transplants, initiate and manage extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), facilitate inter-hospital ECMO transport, participate in hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) procedures and perform veno-veno bypass and left heart bypass. The Perfusionist maintains life-support functions during cardiopulmonary bypass for those patients undergoing cardiac surgery. The Perfusionist provides additional cardiac support for patients undergoing radiologic, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures related to cardiac disease. The Perfusionist assists in preservation of hemodynamic stability through blood conservation/salvage/infusion for those patients undergoing both scheduled and emergency surgery for cardiac as well as other surgical specialties. Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: Current American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion certification or eligible* * If not certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion must obtain within 1 year of hire date into position Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment: Current American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion certification AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent Experience REQUIRED: N/A Experience PREFERRED: Academic Health Care experience Education/training REQUIRED: Graduate of an accredited perfusion program Education/training PREFERRED: Bachelors Degree in a Health Science field (Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy, Physiology) or closely related field Independent action(s) required: Follows documented physician/licensed independent provider orders. Must be able to choose and assemble proper equipment for all surgical cases requiring a perfusionist. Organizes and plans work with specific outcomes and demonstrated use of sound clinical judgment and resources Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): N/A Additional position requirements: Perfusionists work all three shifts, weekends and holidays. Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with the Chief Perfusionist. Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work may be adjusted as necessary to meet unit requirements and/or as needed.
