Summary Paid Student Nurse Externship at St. Mary's Hospital Our student nurse extern program provides the opportunity to gain supervised, hands-on working experience while still in nursing school. Nurse externs gain valuable experience to help them prepare for careers as members of the medical community tasked with providing high-quality care to patients. Nurse Externship Program Overview: Nurse Extern I: * Candidate MUST be actively enrolled in an accredited ADN or BSN program AND * Candidate MUST successfully completed at least one medical-surgical clinical rotation before Nurse Extern I offer can be extended. * Nurse Extern I's Performs or assists with patient care utilizing the nursing process under the supervision of a registered nurse preceptor. Provides care for patients of all ages according to the standards of care specific to the individual's needs. Nurse Extern II: * Candidate MUST be in the final semester of accredited ADN or BSN program or graduated with BSN or ADN within previous year. * Candidate MUST have accepted a RN position with St. John's HSHS. Nurse Extern II positions will not be posted on the HSHS Career Site. The Nurse Extern II position will be offered in the same department that the candidate receives the New Graduate License Pending Offer. Student must have successfully completed at least one clinical rotation. Experience Successfully completed at least one medical-surgical clinical rotation. Certifications, Licenses and Registrations Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.
