For internal consideration please apply to CBTC-12375767-24-OC. Videos Help Duties The Surgical Specialty clinics require specialized nursing care and evaluation depending on services provided. The Surgical Specialty RN is responsible for the surgical and non-surgical patient care while utilizing all aspects of the nursing process and works in collaboration with the care coordinators, providers, residents, surgical technicians, and nurse manager. The RN systematically assess the health status of individuals and documents related health data in accordance with institutional policy providing pre, intra, and post procedure care. Additionally, the RN provides education to patients, families, significant others, and/or caregivers. The Surgical Specialty RN maybe required to provide post-op care, wound care, or any other nursing interventions as permitted by governing licensing authorities and/or the Veteran Health Administration. The Surgical Specialty RN is required to train and maintain competency in set-up and break down of minor procedures. The Surgical Specialty RN will float to other surgical specialty areas as needed and is required to have basic knowledge and competency in that area. The RN will enter orders for labs, supplies, and prosthetic items as permitted by nursing protocols/policies. The Surgical Specialty RN performs initial triage of walk-in patients to the clinical area that may need urgent or post-operative care on a daily basis. The RN will determine if the patient requires further intervention with provider support, to improve same day access. The clinic RN will administer medications, perform treatments according to policy and observes for changes in the patient's condition from ordered medications/treatments and reports said changes immediately. The clinic RN must possess the ability to recognize urgent/emergent care situations and perform appropriate interventions. The RN must complete phone calls and secure messages within 24-48 hours and reviews alerts throughout clinic hours and resolve promptly, and ensure the clinic has an efficient flow and education to team members to meet clinic/patient needs. This RN must also understand tele-health medicine to include VVC, CVT, SM and its equipment and quality monitors as assigned by nursing leadership. Responsible for participating within unit based and/or organizational level Shared Governance councils, utilizing clinical expertise, evidence-based practice, and knowledge to assist with finding solutions to problems or issues to improve the quality care provided to our veterans. Qualifications Basic Requirements: * English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. * Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program. Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program.
