Inova Schar and Cancer Institute is seeking an Infusion Pharmacist to join the team.
The Infusion Pharmacist contributes to the quality and effective operation of the department by ensuring safe, appropriate, and cost-effective medication therapies for patients according to established policies, procedures, and protocols. Oversees all department activities pertaining to the preparation and dispensing of pharmaceutical preparations, in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and in compliance with the requirements of the Virginia Board of Pharmacy.
This is a full-time Monday – Friday variable shift position. MUST BE FLEXIBLE, occasional weekends.

Job Responsibilities:
- Utilizes clinical documentation to obtain prior authorization approvals and appeals.
- Assists patients with timely pharmacy access to medications and documents all related communications with patients, physicians, finance, nursing, case management in appropriate platform.
- Works with payers to obtain coverage for patients and appropriate emergency one time overrides when needed and resolves prescription insurance billing problems.
- Cleans equipment, maintains all required temperature logs and maintains accurate inventory values and drug procurement as per policies and procedures.
- Maintains accurate and up to date patient profiles and allergy and up to date medication reconciliation lists.
- Utilizes manufacturer hubs to ensure Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy and other dispensing requirements are met.
- Follows appropriate Utilization Review Accreditation Commission, Accreditation Commission for Health Care, United States Pharmacopeia standards and follows scope of standards for Specialty pharmacy services which may include mail order shipping, cold chain distribution, compounding.
- Facilitates accurate Point of Service payments and patient assistance programs applications.
- Manages Commercial and Medicare accounts and auditing processes.
Qualifications:
Experience:
- One (1) year of experience working in a hospital as an Oncology Pharmacist.
Education:
- Bachelors Degree in Pharmacy.
Certifications:
- Licensed Pharmacist in the state of VA or eligible for reciprocation license.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 3 months of hire.
